New Estimates of the Third-order Elastic Constants for Isotropic Aggregates of Cubic Crystals
نویسنده
چکیده
An improved method, based on an extension of the self-consistent method from the linear theory, is proposed to evaluate the effective third-order elastic constants for isotropic aggregates of cubic crystals. The calculated constants are compared with the Voigt and Reuss-type estimates, which are currently the only other analytical estimates available for these constants. The agreement between calculations and experimental data is then discussed.

Apparent elastic constants of cubic crystals and their pressure derivatives
Expressions for the pressure-dependent apparent elastic constants of cubic crystals are derived in terms of their original secondand third-order elastic constants. New expressions are obtained for the apparent compliances and their pressure derivatives. Results are shown to be in agreement with those based on the apparent elastic moduli. متن کاملReal-space Green’s tensors for stress and strain in crystals with cubic anisotropy
Real-space Green’s tensors are presented for the calculation of the stress or strain in infinite cubic crystals containing buried quantum wires or dots of arbitrary shape and composition, including the cubic anisotropy of elastic constants. The Green’s tensors are obtained as a polynomial series to second order in , an expansion coefficient defined in terms of the elastic stiffnesses. The zerot...

The 3rd order constants theory in solid material was completed with the papers by Toupin and Bernstein, Jones and Kobett and Truesdell [8-10]. Truesdell used four 3rd-order elastic constants in his general theory for isotropic solid. Brugger [11] gave the thermodynamic definition of higher order elastic constants. In 1973, Green reviewed 3rd-order constants measurements of various crystals, and...
متن کاملHomogenization methods for anisotropic linear elastic polycrystals
The elastic properties of uniform polycrystalline materials without defects depend on both the constitutive properties of the constituents and the microstructural characteristics like the distribution of grain orientations and grain shapes. For an overview concerning the homogenization of elastic properties see, e.g., [1]. The elementary bounds by Voigt and Reuss take into account only the volu...
